The author of this book is very well known you’ve probably read loads of her books. Yes, she is Margaret Mahy. It is called Kaitangata Twitch. The story is based on a young girl, about 12 years old, called Meredith Skerritt. A very bad, mean man called Marriott Carswell wanted to change their simple town, Kaitangata.Meredith’s Dad is trying everything he can to stop Marriott who has recently been elected on the council which isn’t really working. Meredith has been hearing Kaitanga talking saying “Flick! Need feed! Need feed!” She needs a plan to stop him changing Kaitangata Island a small island which they can see from their house.
50 years ago a girl named Shelly Bentry disappeared at her 10th birthday on Kaitangata Island Meredith has been noticing some weird things. What will she do to save her beloved Island? This book review is written by B M and N B.
This sounds like an interesting book to read. I am wondering how the characters in the story want to 'change' the island. Do they want to develop it - build houses, roads, factories etc? Or are they planning to damage the environment - pollution etc? I might have to get this book from Howick Library and read it myself to find out!
